Hi, any tips on starting engine in cold weather.  My Nellie (Defender 90 300tdi)  was struggling this morning and it was only -5 not looking well for winter 

How old is the battery? Bit of internet searching should help you test it.

Earth cable condition

Starter motor condition

Glow plugs working correctly?

A few to check to begin with 

Thank you, appreciate your advice. Not sure on battery ages, have 2. Will check out your other suggestions, don't know how to check glow plugs etc. But will check online, helpful knowing what to look up 

Hi is your 90 always been a 300tdi, if so when you turn ignition on and wait till glow/chock light gose off then turn key a bit further to turn starter,if not you have to hold the key for about 10 seconds till glow/chock light gose off then turn key to get starter turning hope this helps, paddy.

Test your glow plugs , remove from cylinder head and test using jump cables connected to battery. Any that don't glow red hot replace. Mind great care as they are fe#*$g hot

Also, when the glowlights go out, wait about 5 seconds then turn the key.
The glowplugs are still heating up to max.
