Overheating series3 diesel
« on: October 21, 2013, 08:04:13 PM »
My 2.25 is running hot and I can't work out why.

Fan is turning fine.
Replaced thermostat.
Drained and flushed it to within an inch of its life.

Water pump replacement next?
We all know that small cars are good for us. But so is cod liver oil. And jogging.

I shall reframe from saying replace it with a 200tdi  ;)
I agree chances are there are no fines on the back of the water pump!  :)

I know it needs a 200tdi but now it's become a matter of stubbornness. It sounds like someone is using a hammer under the bonnet but it keeps fighting on!

My guess based on the tapping noise you describe is that one of the pre-combustion chambers in the cylinder head is loose & if not remedied VERY QUICKLY is liable to destroy the relevant piston, so I would suggest removal of the cyl head for closer examination.
Keep us posted if my guess is correct.
