Wheels & Tyres .
« on: August 30, 2013, 02:31:29 PM »
:) Hi looking for some information / knowledge / advice. At the moment I am running with 255/55/R18 wheels and tyres on my P38 Range Rover and was wondering about fitting 16" alloys with 265/ 70 tyres or the equivalent .Thinking behind this a smoother ride and having more rubber on the surface also 16" tyres seem to be a bit less expensive or am I just kidding myself ??  Any help would be well appreciated..

Thanks   Duncan

16's are certainly cheaper but I suppose it all depends on how many miles you do and how often you change them.

I run General Grabbers 255 55 19 on my D3 and they are a comfortable ride. They are also wearing well, covered 26k miles and still got half the tread on them if not more. Not sure the more tyre the more comfort but GG's work for me, wear, value and ride wise.

Not sure if his helps

:) Thanks Stephen . If I was to change to 16" alloys what size of tyres would I need to keep the same profile as I've got 255/55/R18 ??
The hurricane alloys are 8j if I remember and I want to keep the same width for grip during Tyros , GRR's and maybe even RTV's if I can
manage to slim the P38 down a bit  :P       Duncan

I'm not an expert but I think 245 is about the max for a 8 inch wheel. To keep the same profile your probably looking at about 75, not sure.

I run 235 85 16 on steel wheels on my Defender but that's Insa's. some people prefer a slimmer tyre for RTV's etc.

imo go for 235/70/16 better turning lock to lock drive well on road with no tramlining
