200 TDI water leak
« on: August 31, 2013, 12:57:01 AM »
Hi ,

My 200 TDI engine has a water leak, all I can see is water lying on top of the ledge which is below the thermostat housing, I think this is the water pump housing, could water leak out of the top of this casing ? I cannot see any signs of water coming from the two hoses from the thermostat housing.

Any advice welcome

Donald . Ps for the first time every I am having to use the Landie as my daily driver, about 60 miles a day, so have decided to find out exact mpg ,  any guesses

Could well be the waterpump houseing or the thermostat houseing ... both commonly leak and water always finds the easiest way out  so can be in unusuall areas. If there is a slight squeeling noise it could be your water pump on its way out. Easy to fix aslong as the waterpump retaining bolts are not seized into the block and snap on removal then its a bit more of a job.

Thanks for that Scott, some lose bolts on the water pump casing , so I have given them a little tighten in the hope that solves it, but not too confident, might need new gasket
