Series to defender hybrid,
« on: November 14, 2012, 09:04:30 PM »
Hi Folks,
I have just bought a series landrover and was wondering about options in terms of modifying ..
It currently has the 2.25 petrol engine leaf springs ect...

Can anyone show me some pics of series landys with 200 tdi or similar conversions...  I did once see a web site which went through the stages but I cant find it... Also can suspension and diffs be converted?

If anyone has done this type of thing would be grateful for any info/advice..
cheers
james

if you want to change the engine a 200tdi is a fairly easy bolt in(ish) fit  :)
changing over to coils is hard work and would be better with a fresh chassis  :(
there is nothing wrong with well maintained leafs - or you could fit parabolics  ???
life is but a journey from birth to death - why rush ?
run a series landie and take your time

I'd suggest that if you want a coil sprung vehicle you just buy one and don't butcher an increasingly rare Series vehicle.

For info on a 200Tdi conversion there is a good article in Glencoyne Engineerings website.

Thanks to everyone that has advised and sent messages.
The series I have bought has a galvanised chassis so I wont be changing that, it also has brand new parabolic springs fitted,  so as genem says whats the point in trying to turn a series Landy into a clone defender I already have one of these.... good advise!

Looks like the 200 tdi is the engine I could fit, but is there a difference between defender 200tdi and discovery 200tdi engines.. This is important I think...
I am slowly learning more about the series 3 and becoming more and more attached to the trucks spec.. Apart from the petrol engine...

Hi
If you are  going to fit  a 200 or a 300 then have a look on the series two website there is a full section on conversions.
