smelly differential oil

smelly differential oil

hi, I have drained the oil from my rear differential and there is a strong smell almost like gas, does anyone know what would cause that?

stinks like cat pee :o  something to do with acids in the oil, make sure you put the correct grades back in as well

new oil stinks as well depends on brand    it is one way to detect a leak

If its like cat pee its very old possibly, or someone has put ATF in and it is very old  :o

You are to be congratulated at having oil in the diff to drain. Means the seals don't need replaced!  :D
