Series 2A and 3 steering box
« on: June 12, 2012, 10:54:32 PM »
Hi All,

Dopey question time.  ::)
Is the steering box on a Series 2A the same as that used on a Series 3 and are they inter-changable?
Do they have the same number of turns lock to lock and the same 'travel'?
Do they also have the same steering arm fitted?
If they are different, does anyone know how to tell the difference between them?
When my steering wheel is at full lock the hubs still about an inch away from the 'stop' which seems a bit odd.
Only thing I can think of is the steering box is the wrong one. (Unless someone knows different?)

I have a pair of steering boxes in the garage, one from a series 3 and one from my 2a and they are the same except the series 3 one has a spline to mount the steering wheel and the 2a has a pinch bolt setup also the bolt holes at the various mounts are slightly bigger on the s3 due to metric fasteners.
Have you standard wheels on yours, can you hit the bump stops with the wheels off?
