Defender Front Door Window Channels
« on: August 01, 2011, 02:27:13 PM »
Hello,

can anybody tell me how the window guides/channels (inside the door) fix to the door at the bottom, please?

The doors I'm rebuilding don't seem to have any sort of fixing and the guides just flap loose, which can't be right...

I can't make out the diagram in the Haynes manual...

Thanks,

paul

  • I'm not completely daft. Some pieces are missing.

I think they do indeed just hang there inside the door - I did mine last year and as far as I remember the only fixings were in the frame - I glued mine rather than have screw-heads poking out to catch :-)

Hi Paul, what should be there is a small metal tab with the guide strip held to it with a countersunk self tapping screw, usually rusted away though. Colin.

Hi chaps,

thanks very much for that - I've had to cut away the bottoms of these doors and weld in new frame sections - I don't remember there being any tabs/fixing points, so I suspect you're right that they've just rusted away...  The windows seem to work fine (in that they go up and down) without anything holding the bottoms of the channels though, to be honest...

  Thanks,

Paul
