anyone with a nanocom or Hawkeye willing to help
« on: March 07, 2011, 09:13:36 PM »
hi was out driving today when the 3 amigos came on, went off once i turned my discovery off then on again but after a short while they came back on!

anyway i have the car booked for an mot on friday but thats a waste of time if the abs light comes on.

so anyone with a nanocom or hawkeye that could pin point the problem would be very helpful.

or even if anyone has one for sale.

thanks in advance

MOT isn't a waste of time if the brakes work. ABS light doesn't matter as long as the vehicle passes the brake efficiency test as far as I am aware. Even with the 3 amigos the ABS should still work in a reduced fashion unless it is completely goosed. Resetting them is a waste of time unless you can fix the problem before the MOT which is unlikely, they will just come back on after a few miles.

Don't have a location for you but I am in based in Stirling and work in Lanarkshire. If you want a code read and reset then I have a Hawkeye so PM me for contact details. If someone closer then go for it.

Calum.

PS Mine has a new MOT and 3 Amigos!  ;D

If the ABS light is on it will fail the MOT.
If the light re-sets when you start the engine it will pass as a road test is not
normally part of the test.

Grum,

My point is that if he resets the codes and drives to the MOT station then the ABS light will likely be back on again. If the fault is so trivial that it doesn't stay on when the car is stopped and restarted then he doesn't need a Nanocom or Hawkeye as it will probably stay off during the MOT as you say, other than he would like to know the codes to be able to fix it.

Regards.

while you are waiting on a code reader jack up each corner and check all wheel bearings for play , if theres play then that is probably your problem, if theres no play then you will need the codes read to find out what corner is playing up

Spot on piper5, if there is play in a bearing the air gap can be to large for the sensor to operate.
Another check you can do is look at the resistance in each sensor using a multi meter,
un plug each one and note the readings, the odd one out (a much higher resistance) is the faulty sensor.

ok jacked each wheel up and there is no play in any except the drivers front, theres play left to right but not top to bottom??
can this be the wheel bearing?? (thought there was play through 360)
does not look to have play in the track rod ends either

also anyone know where this hose goes??

thanks

If you find out that it is a sensor that is at fault these can be replaced.

Cost me ?5 for the sensor and easy to do, done one front and rear on my Discovery.
