The real nonsense is some of the journeys that trucks make, shipping scotch meat to the south of England to be packed by the supermarkets and come back up in plastic packs mostly full of air.....Grain spirit from the central belt travelling to Essex to be bottled and shipped back north as Smirnoff and Gordons, when there are under-used packing plants here.
Every time I drive down the motorway I despair at the waste of it all, most of the long distance stuff should be on Rail. Trucks should only be doing relatively local delivery - but the rail system is too poor to allow it. If Thatcher had invested in the countries infrastructure instead of p*ssing our Oil money away on paying folk to be unemployed we'd be in a far better situation. The Norwegians had a much better idea - they did use the money on Infrastructure instead of politically motivated slash and burn.
....and yes, out local Garage is currently charging ?1.35 a litre, 9p more expensive than the supermarkets 25 miles away......
