Brakes - help
« on: December 21, 2010, 08:04:36 PM »
Driving home tonight I got a grinidng noise and the 110 pulls to the right. Intermittant and seemed to less frequent as I got nearer home. But also noticed brake pedal had little resistance unles pumped a couple of times.
Had a quick look and all brake pads present (discs fon & rear) and fluid level ok.
Is it possible the calliper pistons could be sticking with the cold temps?
What else should i be looking at? :-\

Defenders are infamous for sticky callipers so suggest you check them first, free them up and give them a scoosh of copper grease. That might extend the lifetime but nothing is better than changing them out for new ones.

My daughter had the same problem on her beamer two weeks ago and had to be recovered from the M8,  it turned out to be grit between the caliper and the disk. Not normally a problem unless the cooncil have been gritting the roads ::) ::).

Could even be a wheel bearing, disc wobble opens caliper more than usual resulting in extra travel required.

BINGO

Got some spare bearings in the freezer ;)  Twas a job todo out of principle. Now it comes to the top of todo list.
Changing calliper as dust seals are shot as well.
