How easy is it to remove and replace the fuel filter on a TD5 110 defender?  More to the point could an idiot do it?

haven't done one on a defender but i am sure its the same as a disco
stick a bowl underneath and unscrew it screw the new one on and swap over the water sensor from the bottom if fitted
turn the ignition on and off a few times till the pump stops squealing then start the engine allow to idle for a bit and check for leaks job done
important part is bleeding by turning on the ignition a few times without starting, if you get air in it can be a pig

if you turn the ignition on & pump the throttle 5/6 times in quick sucession the check engine light will flash & this puts the ecu into self bleed mode & runs the pump till it bleeds,
Started out with nothing,
Still have most of it left

watch when you put the water sensor back in, it is plastic and snaps very easily giving you a slow leak of diesel (mot fail).

My advice having done this and got into a mess is a combination of the above.

The self bleed mode I found had to repeated  about a dozen times, but in trying to start the engine I flattened my battery.  :P
Also what I learned and not mentioned is fill the diesel filter before fitting it. Possibly why self bleed was repested more than prescribed.
