Fitting a snorkel

Ok as it says above some bits are pretty obvious but what about the part on the wing inner. It seems to have a drain like thing(technical term lol) should that be blanked off or do you need that when it rains etc??

Any advice greatfully recieved as usual

Cheers Bill

Bill,
When I fitted the one on the TD5 90, there was no drain on the snorkel kit but I think there was one on the link from the back of the snorkel to the hose to the air filter. A sort of v shaped piece of rubber that allows water out but not in.

The biggest problem I had was marrying up the inside the engine compartment bit of the snorkel to the square tube and then putting the silicon on to seal the joint. Might be a job for someone with small hands like young Billy

Is this on a defender?
Are you talking about a drain on the snorkle, in with the kit,
or the drain already on the LR in the inner wing from the heater air intake on the top of the wing.

Is your snorkel going in the top of the wing horizontal or in the side, vertical?

Just got mine WOOHOO (early xmas prezzie!) what can I use instead of the Sikaflex 227, cos I can't find it anywhere, tried all the obvious places, they stock most of range, but not the 227!  :'(
Can't find it online either  :-\

Is there something else I can use?
Or does anyone know where to get it?

Thanking you

Bill i think i know what your talking about,,,, yes it's the factory induction it's to allow small amount's of water to drain the flappy rubber bit seals with induction air pressure(sucks) and is overwhelmed by the weight of water allowing it to drain away safely,, mastic it up get plenty of mastic on there, this part is actually bolted to the bulkhead be care full not to break it because if you do you will have to engineer a way to keep it from contracting and rubbing against your steering uj,  :-[ :-[ :-[guess how i know that,,not wanting to teach my granny to suck eggs here but dont just seal that bit seal every join on the system and if you've done it right you should be able to put your hand across the top of the snorkel and stall your engine,,,,now the top of your snorkel is the lowest point that water can enter your engine, Tio 8)

Thanks for that T!
Have now given up with the hunt for the elusive Sikaflex 227!! Bought Tiger Seal today instead, it reads as doing the same job?!  Was told it will do the same job?!  It better do the same blinkin job!  ::)
