200TDI Water Temperature Gauge - Advice Please.
« on: April 01, 2017, 06:45:13 PM »
My 1989 90 has developed a strange fault with the water temperature gauge and I would be grateful for any advice please.

For about the past year, the needle on the gauge has barely moved at all regardless of conditions. I put this down to the 200TDI being a cold engine rather than any problem.
Within the last week or so, before I even start the engine, the needle moves towards the middle of the normal range without the engine even running.  Engine starts great, pulls well but I now have no faith in the gauge.

Going to order a new temperature sender (Steve Parkers one - designed for Discovery into Defender engine conversions) but in the mean time, is there anything else I should check?

Thanks,
Andrew.

Have a quick check of the wiring to make sure it isn't shorting somewhere. Mine had a bare 'joint' in the middle of the wire from sender and occasionally came into contact with the engine causing it to fluctuate
