Anti freeze
« on: December 13, 2015, 08:16:13 PM »
Hi Guys,

I have a 2002 Discovery TD5 , only had it about a month and after a very cold night last night I thought I'd better check the anti freeze , my tester showed that its only safe up to about -5 so I feel it needs to be a stronger mix, is it possible just to add some pure anti freeze by letting some water out the system instead of draining the full engine , also what type of anti freeze should I use , I read so many different views.

Cheers
Donald

To be honest, if you want to be sure on the mix I would just drain it and put some new coolant in, at least then you'll know.

Use OAT if you are unsure of what has been in previously, will avoid gunking up the engine from reacting with the old stuff

Many thanks guys , I rechecked the anti freeze in the daylight ( much easier ) and there seems to be plenty of anti freeze in the system , from memory I think it looked yellowish ??
