Knackered UJ - why always the back one ?
« on: June 20, 2015, 11:11:26 PM »
So, in the fair few years I've had the 90 I've replaced 3 UJs. Its always the same one, right by the rear diff. All the others are fine. Can't just be my technique, one was done professionally.

So, why always that same one at the back ? They all get the same greasing etc...

Any ideas ?

Blue Box ? Maybe so, the one that's just gone in is GKN, so lets see how that does.

Some ideas/thoughts:

1) the geometry of the prop shaft is putting more stress on the back uj - I'm pretty sure the rear uj is slightly different between 90 models e.g. td5 and 200tdi
2) rear one is lower and so getting all the dirt / road spray
3) the rear axle diff compared to the front axle diff certainly does most of the work
4) definitely using a quality uj such as GKN?
5) had a lift on the suspension?
6) prop shaft balance is out (wee metal weight rusty and fallen off)
