Okay, I'm desperate to sell this now - It is listed on ebay here:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/201144218664?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649I'll end the auction for £2000 from anyone on here.
It is MOTed until 15.09.2014 and has no tax. It has done ~290,000 miles.
I bought it in August 2013 for £3600 for a bit of fun over the winter. Arguably, I might have paid too much for it!
I then poured £1500 into it. It has had new clutch master and slave cylinders; a replacement steering box; a new centre exhaust section; new front shocks and springs; new drop links; and new fuses and light bulbs here and there.
Things that give it character are as follows: the top of the bulkhead is a bit rotten; it sometimes crunches a wee bit between the gears (but usually the gear change is fine and it has never popped out of gear); and the heater is like an asthmatic grass hopper.
I have been told the following by partners/owners at Mann Automotive, Laurencekirk; Caldwell & Dempster, Banchory; and MMC Motors, Peterculter: "It's got a strong engine and pulls well"; "it's just the top of the bulkhead that's a bit rotten - the rest of the bulkhead and the footwells are fine - you can get a new bulkhead top section now - that's all it needs"; "the gearbox is fine - just use it"; "it's on a good chassis" (I've been round the car tapping the chassis with someone from Mann Automotive and it makes the right noise all the way round!)
I bought this with the intention of getting myself out of sports cars and into something a bit slower, but I'm commuting 50 miles a day now and the Land Rover is hardly an easy drive! I've just bought a lovely MR2 and the Land Rover needs to go to an enthusiast and/or someone with a shorter commute and/or someone who is going to use it as a second car. I want to be a Land Rover enthusiast but the time is not right for me just now.
Contact me with any questions. Come and have a look at the Defender. I live in Lumphanan.
