TD5 grinding noise
« on: April 16, 2014, 06:18:33 PM »
Intermittent grinding noise when in gear slowing down, not brakes as was using engine braking. It stopped soon as power was reapplied. Think was induced with stop start in traffic. Stopped making noise after I pulled over to take a looky look underneath.Checked UJs and there was abit of play so require renewal but don't think that would make grinding noise but I don't know what  symptoms of uj's except think major slop Clutch feels fine but noise was coming from that general area. Clutch was renewed 2 years ago and done around 30,000mls with light duty use. I did hear a metallic noise as if I had dropped a bit of metal plate when leaving my street earlier on. Any ideas

Does it do it when starting up from cold then go away.

Both TD5 Disco's I've had had noisy spigot bearings.  Used to make a noise when cold but would go away shortly after warming up, and sometimes when changing down gear

I do have that rattle at start up before this happened as I forgot to change it when doing clutch. But it was a different noise as that's normally more a rattle dependant on pressure of clutch but thanks for the reply.

Hi,

You can get this with failure of the double carden propshaft.

Cheers
