Engine hoist/crane
« on: November 25, 2014, 11:52:41 AM »
Hi all,

am contemplating changing the engine on my classic over the Christmas break, will need to beg/borrow/rent an engine crane for probably a few days, between Christmas and new year, would rather give some beer tokens to someone than a rental company,

many advanced thanks,

I had the same taking an engine out a Discovery once with the same model of crane.  Luckily it was a scrapper and cut the front panel off it

yep mine the clarke 1 tonne - it couldnt reach high enough or long enough to work over even the chassis of my 90.

lucky the whole body was off and i could fit it from the side !
`87 ninety - full rebuild with 11l 200tdi conversion ,2 inch lift and 13 inch shocks and relevent protection/sliders./ dislocation cones

Just a thought!  If you raise the crane ie pit boards under the wheels or the lower beams of the crane prior to taking the weight of the engine then lift the engine & roll the rolling chassis/body rear-wards. This should give enough lift to clear the front panel etc.
