Sensor in bell housing..... what is it for?
« on: October 27, 2013, 06:19:00 PM »
Me again!

My 300tdi Automatic Discovery has had a major operation but something went wrong and I have broken a cable from a sensor on the bell housing, the opposite side from the started motor it has 3 core cable going to a multi plug, the question is, what is this sensor for? I have tried looking on the interweb but no joy.

The reason I ask is that I need a new one but have no idea what it's called or what it's for!

No idea if it went electric!

It's not the crank positioning sensor, it's at the top of the bell housing and just comes out on the torque converter side of the engine!

It's either engine speed sensor or crank position.

Yes the tdi got electronic diesel control (EDC) on the auto 300 to give it better response off the line to spin up the torque converter. Good system and lots of fun to be had when set up correctly!
