That 50mph vibration
« on: September 15, 2013, 08:36:48 PM »
As per said title I can feel it through the steering wheel - its on the defender.
Prop shaft ujs, wheel bearings, track rod ends, drop arm all OK
Its just been polybushed and bolts have been double checked.
Just change the wheels - is there anything else to be checking before we go to the garage for tracking?

Sounds like the wheels are out of balance, possibly one or two of the wheel weights have came off or its been kerbed?

Worth a look, I had that as well and have since found my swivel bearings had collapsed. Haven't had a chance to check yet as I need a few shims to set the loading first.

Billy Basic - but are the wheels full of mud ? Can throw them out of balance as easily as a lost weight.
If its not broken you are not trying hard enough....

With the mud tyres now fitted all seems ok, considerably noiser.

Road tyres were clean, so guesing I have thrown a few balance weights.
