Hi all,

I can't open the upper tailgate on my Disco 3.  The lock appears to be operating OK as I can hear it clicking but the tailgate doesn't open. I tried holding both the lock and unlock buttons on the dash for 3 seconds with the same result.
Anyone have any idea how I can open the tailgate and what the problem might be?
It looks like you need the lower tailgate down to remove the plastic trim on the upper tailgate to access the mechanism.
I believe there is a cable from the lock to the latches, but not sure. Could that have broken?

well known issue go over to the disco3 forum, and search for it there. you will find step by step instructions and photographs for all things disco3/4
you should also change thelower one as its next

Very common issue. Done loads of them, takes around half an hour to open the tailgate and replace the latch 

can be sore on the arms though! If you get really stuck and are anywhere near southside of glasgow give me a call

Bloody nightmare job, still have the scars!

I certainly know what the problem is now, which is a helluva good starting point. 
I'll buy the bits first then give it a bash and see how I get on.
