Transmission Issues Series 3
« on: January 30, 2013, 10:11:25 PM »
Hi all

I spoke too soon with being back on the road. On the way home this evening I had severe issues with getting the wheels moving... It was fine to begin with and it comes and goes, but clutch to the top getting little or no movement in wheels. Hi/Lo, nothing. Overdrive in/out, nothing. Different gears makes no difference. Eventually it'll kick back in but nowhere near as it was... 4th gear struggling to do 30 with medium to high revs...

What have I broken? :(

Sounds clutch related to me.  Either slipping or not being released properly

How does the pedal feel? Floppy, really hard, or just as normal?

It feels the same other than the biting point seems to be above the top of the pedal travel... Ie pedal fully released and still seems to be slipping/not engaging properly..

I've also checked the reservoir and there's plenty of fluid in it.

It sounds to me like a slipping clutch  :( (I've got say, though, I'm no expert, so maybe hold fire & see further comments from the more sage forum members!)

Hello all.

I've spoken to a few people who recon my clutch is gone completely and needs replaced. I can get the parts easy enough. Does anyone know how long it'd take to drop the dearbox (ex-mil so should have removable gearbox x-member) and swap out the 3 parts on the clutch?

Is there anyone in Glasgow-ish area that'd be willing to give me a hand with this on Sunday?

Have you checked the clearance on the operating rod between the pedal and the master cylinder?  If its too tight it will make the clutch "pump up" and will make the clutch slip.  From what you have said the slipping clutch you are experiencing is vairable - this doesn't sound like a worn out clutch as the slippage would essentialy be the same all of the time.

I have not. It's not variable, it's the same all the time now :(
