silicon hoses
« on: October 17, 2012, 03:30:50 PM »
Are there any benefits to replacing the standard rubber  hoses fitted on a TD5 defender with a set of silicon hoses.  If so what are they and is there any negative points I would need to be aware of?   Thanks in advance.

Change them before they delaminate internally and cause a lack of power, bound to happen at the most convenient moment,in daylight, dry,not in a hurry, surrounded by tools, etc, etc, etc. :) :) :) :)

Assuming you are talking about the turbo hoses I think you will find they are silicon anyway, just plain black rather than bright colours. I tried all types of pipe on a 200tdi conversion and they all failed until i fitted silicon. (Originals had been dumped by the breaker and I was not paying LR prices) Coolant pipes are a different matter, vsrious grades available. I have just bought EPDM for an awkward job on a VW van.
