Don't think it is the full mod, but if you are making up a kit out of parts it sounds like a good thing to include :)

Yep try this

Quote from: I.AM_a driver:125328
I fitted a VW wiper relay (relay 99) to the truck yesterday, and it was drizzling on my way home from 4x4 response meeting. What can I say, one of the best mods I've made :D

Fitting
I bought the relay on eBay (less than ?10 inc p&p), it's quite simple to do:
remove the dash/instruments (Tdi and Td5) or removing the relay cover under the steering wheel (TDCi),
find the front wiper relay (activate the intermittent switch and listen or feel for it clicking)
unplug the (lucas) part and replace with the VW one:

Relay 99 in place (Td5 shown, 02MY non A/C)

Oh, and it's a good idea to test that the wipers still work before putting binnacle back together.

Operation:
The default interval is, say 10 seconds. to get a different length of time, you put the switch to intermittent then back to the 'off position before the wipers return to park position. You then put the switch to intermittent after the appropriate interval. IE "[int],[off]...15 seconds...[int]" gives you a 15 sec interval or "[int],[off]..4 secs..[int]" gives 4 second interval.

It also governs how many wipes of the front windscreen you get when you use the washer jets, 1 wipe for a small squirt, more for a longer press of the washer switch.

A little mod that's well worth doing, you can find them on eBay or scrappies for not much money too.

"Relay 99"
Volskwagen code: 357 955 531 or 3B0 955 531
Bosch code: 0 986 335 058
Beru code: 0 900 301 082
