Long road to MOTability
« on: July 01, 2011, 09:20:09 PM »
Well today I sorted out the engine and carb and linkage. No more overheating! Well still missing a fan, that needs sorted.

All lights now working... Blew a fuse but that's been replaced. Think the hazzard box may have died when I blew the fuse.

Need a new washer jet pump as mine is naff. Makes noise but no motion of fluid. Ah well.

Still looks a sorry state, really need to get some paint sorted out for the old girl. Could do with a wash first!

The heater works! as it blows hot air at me.

Tomorrow will be fun. New brakes to fit and some brackets for seatbelts to stick up (the ones that go above your shoulder right behind the door edge.

Only question I have is the gearbox keeps trying to jump out of 2nd gear.. doesnt really seem to go that far in... is this something that can be fixed, or is it a new gearbox? (edit: a quick google suggests its time for a gearbox rebuild.... help?!!)

Do a search for detent springs, if you are lucky one is broken and that is why it's jumping out of gear. If unlucky, something is broke inside :(

This is me... the gearbox is probably just a pile of mush inside...

As she stands:

2 sets of brakes changed over (passenger side) and one set stripped ready to be replaced.

Shug is making himself useful by coming to do welding. Got some more bits n bobs ordered, slowly getting there :)

Looking good. just a thought tho, is the V6 a bit to powerfull for a standard box to work reliably in the long term? Im asking as I dont know but would like to find out. Are series 3 boxes stronger than earlier boxes?

Big thanks to Shug for coming to do the weld today, and to the weather for holding out long enough to get it done before raining :D

Progress is being made!

So,

I discovered I've been doing EVERYTHING backwards... ie putting the cylinder on first and then the arms/springs.. it seems if I do it the other way much more progress is to be made. Whoops :) Good news is all the brakes are now swapped over. Just need me some new brake pipes, and that'll be that.

And some respectable tyres. That should be us for the MOT besides sorting out a few wires :)
