TD5 Clutch master cylinder
« on: June 05, 2011, 10:08:25 PM »
Ive noticed some oil on my rubber mat below my clutch pedal, and some on my clutch pedal arm. Im assuming its the clutch master cylinder.....would that be about right?
Looking online Ive seen repair kits for these, new seals etc, would this be ok or am I just aswell replacing the cylinder?
Now that Ive noticed this, is it a job I should do straight away?
Any tips for tackling this............im a bit of a novice mechanic

thanks

If you are a novice then I would just replace the master cylinder.  No particular rush to do, as long as you keep topping up but better to do it sooner rather than later.  Don't fit a pattern part though, otherwise you'll be doing it again quite soon.  Bearmach do the best seal kits if you decide to go that way, but then the cylinder itself wears out and you'll have to replace it anyway.

Sorry, yes.  Pattern parts are made of cheese, in most cases.  A genuine master cylinder isn't very expensive, get one from your local independant or online from Rimmers / Paddockspares or Duckworths.
