Hi and welcome to the forum.

I have a 2001 Discovery TD5 and spent ages trying to find mine. I  wanted Monte Carlo Blue and seven seats and eventually found one down South.

I  would suggest Autotrader and specialists for locating one.

Been looking for one for a friend and he has thought to long about the one's he seen as they go quickly, especially with the white stuff.

Servicing for me is relatively reasonable as I have a "trained" friend who helps me out with any servicing I need that I cannot do. However I would recommend regular servicing and checks, I currently do about 23000 miles a year and have not had any issues due to this regime. I would also suggest getting a full waxoil as some TD5's are better than others in this area. I have seen 03 plates with welding already in large amounts.

Parts are reasonably priced and I buy everything through Strathearn, who have been wonderful with help and advice.

Hope this helps you and you find your Discovery soon

Hi,

I,ve had a '51 plate adventurer for 5 years now and had to do the following -

both rear suspension air bags - really easy
all discs and pads - really easy
fuel pressure regulator - hard to get at but not too bad
starter motor - bit tricky to get out and back in
power steering box - not too bad
front sunroof leaks - did nothing but it stopped whe we parked the other way on the drive, probably blocked drain lines
alarm fault - back to seller to sort with his computer
track rod ends for mot's
all of the door latches / central locking assemblies
rear window wiper motor
Rear fuel lines - think they sorted this on later discos

We've got an '04 plate landmark as well now, it's not needed anything yet.

All the bits above are fairly cheap and easy to get hold of. I'd buy another disco. Much better than a 90 / 110 anyday ;D.

cheers

Geoff

Hi

I've got a 2002 disco td5 ES. Had it for just under a year. Spent ages looking for the right one at the right price. After last years weather the prices held and have pretty much stayed that way. There is a lot more choice down south and I found them to be cheaper aswell. Ended up getting mine in Blackpool. I went to look at loads, I'd suggest you do the same and don't buy the first one you see.

As far as running it goes I get around 25miles to the gallon.

Parts aren't that badly priced, especially compared with other cars.
I get all my parts from Strathearn Engineering. They hold probably the largest stock of Landrover parts in the area and are really good to deal with.

Servicing and repairs are, I've found more straight forward than on other cars. Even with a basic understanding of car mechanicals, repair and service manuals are readily available on eBay etc and are cheap. I get my servicing done at Strathearn aswell along with anything too awkward or inaccessible for me.

So far I've had to replace,

Electric window regulator.
In tank fuel pump.
Fuel regulator.

Had to repair,

Leaking sunroofs.

The disco has been great so far, for camping, traveling and for normal everyday use. And it's been spot on for this weather even in road tyres.

Hope this helps.

Just a wee reminder if you are buying LR parts, we get a 10% discount at Morrisons on production of your SLROC membership card.

Just think if you have expensive parts to buy, your annual subsciption to the club is paid for :) :)

I've had my 52 plate fadelift with just over 110k for about 18months and it's been fine with only some of the faults others have had.  I had mine chipped fairly early on which made a big difference to how it performed.  Driven hard on long distances it gets about 31 mpg, round the doors about 28mpg

Was pleased to see that the Pirelli Scorpions that were fitted shortly before I got it are all wearing evenly, and with about 23k under their belt, still have about 6 months running left in them (about 10k for me).

Mine doesn;t have a difflock, and I was doubtful about the traction control, but I have to admit that the TC has worked well in heavy snow and ice conditions this year and last, I've felt really confident where to attempt to go with it

The only niggle I've got is that it isn't as oil tight as my earlier N Plate 300 tdi.  A particular niggle is that I've got a leak from the end of the steering box where the pipe goes in, which I can't see to get the better of.  The rest of the box is bone dry

I would also say that the chassis isn't as fresh as my last motor either

They seem to be a good old round car, my wife is trying to get me to buy a freelander, however I'm not gonna, will maybe buy her one when she passes her tests!

As for prices, I've had a word with a few folk in the motor trade, & supposedly they are up ?1500 on book price, and have been since last year!

The price thing could be right

I took a long time getting mine, and it ended up coming through Rangerovering posting it on the forum for someone he knows.  At the time there were'nt many facelifts around  here without having to go down south.

Beware if buying from auctions, as when I was searching, there were a lot of immaculkate X and Y plates going through at high prices, but when I looked, there was a lot of chassis rust, and I've also seen a 51 plate that was rotten from the middle to the back

All in all, despite knowing that mine will probably suffer from the same niggles others have experienced, I'm pleased with mine

Hi Graeme, welcome to forum.
I've got a 2004 D2 TD5 - had it almost 4 years with few problems.
Gets serviced annually at local independent which isn't too expensive. Have had to replace both airbags, disks and pads all round, track rod end for MOT. Guess they are "standard wear and tear" items. Only other things that have gone wrong are one of the high pressure fuel lines punctured - got chafed between tank and boot floor - and the front prop shaft sheared on the M8 (that could have been a disaster!). Don't think that's bad over 4 years. Absolutely love it as a car, especially in the frozen wastes around Penicuik recently where its been unstoppable. Its a G4 Ltd Edition model (equivalent to GS, with a few bolt on extras) so comfy and well-equipped, but still very capable off-road, pulling loads etc - brilliant all-round car.
Don't know about fuel consumption. Insurance is relatively cheap (and some co.s will give discount to SLROC members).
It's likely to be for sale end Feb/ March - will advertise on forum at that time.

Going off thread, is anyone aware of any good D3 TDV6's coming up for sale or trade in over next couple of months? Any views on availability in market - are there likely to be more appearing on forecourts in March as trade-ins from people buying new reg D4s?
thanks, alan
