Freelander head gasket
« on: December 20, 2010, 06:12:44 PM »
I am 'fairly sure' the head gasket on my recently purchased Freelander needs changed.
Now, I dont have time or space to be doing this at this time of year as it wont fit into my garage.
Can anyone on here suggest a decent place to be getting this work done at a reasonable cost, or indeed does anybody want to volunteer their services, obviously at a cost......
I cant really be doing without the car for an extended period of time so, the quicker the better......  ;)

Any clues to where you are,
so that a suggestion can possibly be made about someone local to you. ;)

Further clues such as Freelander I or II, petrol or diesel, and engine size would also help.

OOPS sorry, its a 2000 1.8i petrol...... As I said I am fairly sure its needs done. It emptied the header tank in one week. It has 'slight' emulsion in the header tank. It seems to run at the correct temp and the heater works.

There is a chap in Larkhall just did head gasket on my girlfriends Freelander.  Takes 3 days as head will require machining to take new-style gasket.  Cured the disappearing coolant, and got the heater back to stifling.

A local garage to me will do the work for ?350, if it is a stright forward job, i.e. replace gasket with new style gasket, skim head and rebuild. If it requires a replacement head then that will be extra, apparently these cars are also bed for heads going porus, not heard that one before?
