Drop Plate

I am looking to make up a drop plate for my towball and wondering what thickness of steel I could use? Due to the towbar/ball that is on it it needs to be made up as the land Rover drop plates do not fit ??? ???

I suggest the drop plate should be 6 - 8mm plate but on its own is not enough.
I suggest you consider two lateral stays that tie the drop plate back to the chassis members. I have a couple of pals who fitted the drop plates to their Pajero's and the first time it had to work hard it bent just above where the ball is attached.

It is a Land Rover towbar has a swan neck so the tin tent sits nose up when hitched up and there is no way of adjusting the height of this unless a drop plate is fitted.

What variety of Land Rover?  Is it a Discovery 3 with the "plug in" arrangement?

I understand the issue of the spare wheel on the back, I use the ALKO 4x4 adapter but that's OK if you have an ALKO hitch on the van.

Thats how I get away with the drop plate with the wheel on the back door. When I hitch up the horse box I leave the door open to get the hitch on then close it before moving off.
