Defender 90 Suspension issue 300tdi
« on: January 22, 2017, 10:00:46 PM »
I'm looking for some advice.  At the tyro today the rear coils dislocated and one of the shocks sheared.   The springs are original and the shocks are standard height terrafirma items fitted  2 years ago.  We fitted polybushes to the rear recently and though these were meant to be as close to standard as possible they appear to allow less travel than the tired bushes as I've not had this issue before.

I have a couple of questions.  I want to keep the land rover standard height but want to know if I could fit + 2 inch shock with the standard springs and  what's the best way to retain the springs,?  Strong cable ties were suggested today.  Also I ordered standard height  replacement shocks for the front last week and plan to polybush the front too.  Can I expect the front to have issues too or will the weight of the engine cause less issues?

Thanks

Alan

Hi Alan
Sorry to hear about your problems

I'm certainly no specialist like some of the guys In the club but there might be an answer to your problems here, my defender has these spring retainers fitted and although never pushed to the extreme ive never had any issues, good luck, hope you get sorted.

Hi Alan and also sorry to hear about your woes.

Also not an expert in this area but used to Tyro my D2 and got some really good advice over the phone on suspension set up from MM4x4.  In LRO, etc.

Alan.

Hi Alan,

I have the set up your thinking of. I have fitted new standard springs with +2 shocks and dislocation cones. Makes a huge difference, stops the springs popping out and also gives much more bottom end traction.
