Old Enamelled Sign Identification.

One for vintage sign enthusiasts....
Below is a pic of a sign I unearthed (literally) from the end of the garden earlier today.



It looks like it was always traingular and it's galvanised steel with enamel, and rust, on top.
My house was built as a Post Office but also had a garage attached, so I'm thinking it's motoring related.
The letters you can see are C I F(?) A. The 'A' was clearer but some enamel came off....

Any ideas for cleaing it up? scrubbing won't clear the rust but anything much harsher takes the rust and enamel off.....
