300Tdi Injector pipe issues.
« on: November 27, 2015, 02:26:40 PM »
Hello,

Over the past few years I've had a number of injector pipe failures.
The first was a result of the air filter housing bashing against one, fixed that, but over the past four months the number 4 pipe has fractured about half an inch out from the pump on three occasions. When fitting new pipes I've noticed that none of them have wanted to line up properly, whether I try fitting top or bottom end first.
I've needed to slightly bend the pipe to make it sit square onto the pump end thread. Then the other day the number two sheared in the same place.
I can see that vibrations could make them fail but the number 4 has gone four times now whilst I've had the Landy. And like I said, it puzzles me that new pipes don't quite line up.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Mike.

Hi Piper5,

There's two different pumps? It is only the Number 4 pipe which doesn't line up. I've had them all off in the past and they seemed to align....

Mr Radcliffe,

Are all the pipe clamps on? there should be 2 on cylinders 1&2 and 2 on cylinders 3&4.

Stop getting Tim to do your mechanical work and this may help, I find when he gets involved things generally go wrong!!!

Cheers Lard

Hi Piper5, not entirely sure about the engine as it came on from the garage that fitted it and I don't know much of it's provenance...
Ross, so the pipe clamps are important? (of course they are as they wouldn't be on I suppose) I found that they were hard to fit and seemed to want to bend the pipes more than they already were....

Cheers.

Mike, I'm sure the clamps are there to reduce movement in the pipes caused by the high pressure fuel pulsing through. Put a set on and see how you get on, I can send you a pic of where they should go.
Cheers Ross
