Handbrake module - Discovery 3
« on: July 13, 2015, 11:31:50 PM »
We had our Discovery 3 handbrake module changed (amongst other repairs) in October 2014; two weeks ago we took it back to the local garage as switching the vehicle off resulted in a loud whining noise... we were told that the module had failed and that they would take it back to Land Rover as the part would be under warranty. A week later we heard back that Land Rover are claiming the fault is as a result of an unconnected problem - a de-laminated handbrake disc causing brake cable sleeving to melt and damage to the module...

Two local garages have mentioned recently returning defective handbrake modules.

We would be very grateful for members' input on two questions

Does anyone else have a similar experience? (is this a common problem?)
Could the defective module have caused the melted sleeve? (are Land Rover trying to wriggle out of supplying the new unit?)

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

It sounds as though the shoes have either been out of adjustment, causing the screech, the shoes have been over adjusted, or the shoes have seized, and been binding, which has caused the shoe to overheat and the friction material to fall off

FWIW, the modules can be repaired, depending on the fault  ;)
