For sale, Land Rover based, 88” wheelbase, Competitive Safari racer. Selling due to prolonged ill health issues Last raced at Glendearg in October 2009..
Spec includes -
Shortened Range Rover chassis with Defender rear crossmember. Bodywork is a combination of ally sheet and Defender front wings, bonded in laminated windscreen and a canvas roof. Registered with DVLA, but has no MOT and is on SORN.
25 gallon custom made tank in rear ‘loadspace’ along with the battery, washer bottle and Facet fuel pump.
Recovery points – 50mm ball (with Tbar) on front bumper/crossmember and Parrot beak pintle on rear crossmember.
Two Cobra seats with Willans Sabelt 4 point harnesses. Remote control switches operating the horn and wash/wipe system to keep the co-driver from getting bored.
3.5 Litre Rover V8 engine, fitted with Weber 4 barrel carburettor.
New distributor and coil with Magnecor HT leads.
Re-cored (HD) Defender radiator with twin electric cooling fans.
Standard RR transmission set up with ZF 4 speed automatic gearbox and Borg Warner transfer box. Drive to the standard RR, 10 spline front axle through a ‘skinny’ front prop. Drive to the modified RR rear axle through a modified (shortened) propshaft. Rear axle is fitted with a heavy duty welded on diff cover, a 4-pin diff and Discovery 300 type (fine spline) one piece halfshafts.
Suspension is basically standard RR with Tomcat rear springs and new DeCarbon +2” dampers all round, with check straps fitted to the front and rear radius arms. Wheels are Discovery 1 steel with 205 x 16 Diamond type tubed tyres.
All lights, horn, washers in working order, as are a set of spotlamps to mount on the rear hoop of the roll cage.
Also included are various (new and used) spares including 4 x Discovery 1 steel rims in good order with 1 x road pattern, ’last resort’ spare tyre. 2 x Discovery 1 steel rims with plenty of character and a 205 x 16 Diamond pattern tyre. Pre owned front propshaft, 4 bolt steering box, 10 spline diff. New custom built rear propshaft. 2 x ( take off), rear, (short) halfshafts. Front bumper. Rear brake discs, front and rear brake pads. Air filter cleaning kit. Spare gearbox(es) and torque convertor, plus numerous smaller pieces bought/kept as spares for the racer.
Not the fastest car in the world but good fun to drive in a Comp and should be capable in a timed or CCV trial.
Ideally I would like around £20,000 for the car but would settle for £2,500 for the complete 'package'
