Rear RHS Axle/Bearing noise.

A squeaking sound started on the back end my Defender XD last week, accomanied by a vibration between 50 to 60 miles an hour.  I lay under the back end and checked the rear propshaft with the brake off and I can turn it about a quarter turn and hear a squeaking noise coming from the RHS close to the wheel.  I'll take it to pieces this weekend to look at it.  Any advice or insight will be most welcome.

I suggest you jack up the vehicle, place axle stands under the relevant axle! then re-assess the noises/excess free movement etc. The symptoms you describe appear to indicate imminent hub bearing failure, Ignore it at your peril!

Any update on the squeak or did your cat catch the mouse?
