Waxoyl Treatment in Paisley
« on: December 03, 2013, 10:04:39 PM »
Hi.  Just wondering if anyone's had any experience of these guys based in Paisley?  http://www.waxoyltreatment.co.uk/

Thinking of handing in my motor as it's in good shape (and want to keep it that way).  Treatment involves pressure clean below, dry out, wire brush and liberal application of Waxoyl - external and internal to chassis (as well as other cavity areas).  They also apply clear Waxoyl into doors, etc..  Downside is a cost of £400 but if it keeps rot at bay for a few years, then perhaps worth it?

Anyone used them or heard anything about them?

Alan.

Not heard of those guys but on the classic car forum a few have used the same service down south and have been impressed.

Only thing would be if after the steam clean it needed a repair or 2. Would be good to get a steam clean, repair anything and then get the waxoyl.

Hello Alan,  don't know who in Paisley does Waxoyl. The main site does not give an address, maybe worth phoning them for the info then going to see how they work.
I used Gibsons at Cumnock on my Disco 1 earlier this year and was pleased by the result. Before I took the car down I twice washed the underside with a Karcher  chassis cleaner.
Had to leave the car overnight but they were very reasonable because of how clean the car was underneath.

cheers

Hi Alan,

I don't know about the Paisley one but if you don't mind the travel I can recommend Crieff Paint Shop in Church Street Crieff, The owner is Tommy Anderson I have know him for years, well I did work for him! And he is good!

Although its no longer the day job, I'm still involved in the motor trade in Paisley and I have never heard of a waxoil specialist, I assume it must be a franchise of some sort.
I'm and a panel beater to trade and I used to waxoil vehicles regularly, and as others have previously said, I would get the underside jet washed thoroughly then inspect for corrosion as I regularly found holes and large areas of corrosion that required repair.
Folk used to think that the £150 to wash and waxoil the underside of a car included the 2 weeks of welding as well :)
There were also those who think waxoil has Christ like properties that turns rust to beautiful metal again :)

Thanks all for the responses.  After much consideration, am handing it into Strathearn Engineering next week.  The motor's really sound below as has spent some time in sunnier climes and the last couple of years undercover.  It's still going to be fairly costly but given it's a genuine Camel Trophy truck, worth the investment (in my opinion).
