Title: 200 TDi Disco power steering pump
Post by: 3 coops on September 17, 2014, 02:36:18 PM
my 200 TDi disco power steering pump seized.

I have replaced it with a new one. During the change over a not insignificant amount of very fine silver paste was cleaned out of the system, looked like aluminium but was magnetic.

The system has been thoroughly flushed out before recommissioning.

Anyone had this before, and if so any other action which might be wise.

I wonder what this grinding paste might be doing to the steering box.

Many thanks,

Chances are the magnetic paste is (was) part of the pump bearing.  While the steering box is a pretty tough bit of metal, it might be an idea to strap a magnet to the reservoir and go for a run then empty and flush the reservoir and see what comes out /
