Title: SLROC
Post by: Vulcano on May 06, 2011, 09:57:28 PM
Hi what the benefits of joining the SLROC. Not got a  vehicle yet,
but still on the look out.
Notice you got some events going on out Torrance way,
Just  a pity could n't make it.

David, The main benefit is probably access to the events. Between Green Road Runs, Tyros, Driving days, Fun days and on up into the more competitive stuff there is something for everyone from kids and beginners to serious rally nuts. Probably the only bit we are currently lacking as a Club is much activity in the classic car/showing/restoration area  - but if someone wants to run with it.....

Other benefits are that some places give Discounts to SLROC members and it can help with some Insurance companies too.

This is a public forum and great for tech questions and sales/wants - but a bit of face to face networking out on some wet hillside with other Club members can pay dividends in terms of help from mates when problems arise etc.

You get to read about youself in the newsletter - especially if you do something daft on a hill - and there are some good social events and fun-days. You get to be a member of a Club with a bit of history, able to wave at fellow members LRs when you see the sticker in the window etc... For the price if a 1/3 a tank of Diesel its good value !

David,

I can echo what Gene is saying, I joined in January and have met fantastic people all with the same passion about LR irrespective if their LR's are old, new, dirty or shiney. All willing to help with advice when I have been competing on TYRO and sharing experiences.

Heck, we even let in people with other makes of cars.... we just tease them a lot when they come to events (in a good-natured way, obviously)

The great thing about SLROC is that you can be involved as you want:

Seriously Phil, If shows and classics etc is something you're interested in, wanted to have a club presence at clasiics events etc - then great, we've been missing in that arena ( see what I did there  ;D ) since Chris Stearn moved on a few years ago. Are you up for organising a few like minded souls now and then ?

  • You can sit in your arm-chair and pontificate,

Is that a paid position? I'd be very interested in applying for the job.

I noticed that SLROC is not doing any articles or listing events in Land Rover Monthly or Land Rover Owner International, is this an oversight or is there some history here.
I think it would be good for SLROC and membership to publicise in a national mag.
Drew.

Most of the magazines ask us for stuff, we send it, sometimes it appears sometimes it doesn't  ???
