HELP !!!! Starter motor on B reg 110 playing up

Booming typical
Winter comes battery was dying so went out and got a new battery today went to start the motor and yup the starter motor seems to be sticking.
Loads of power going to it but getting the lovely clickety click .

Anyone any ideas as to a quick and easy fix or anyone got a spare????

The short-term fix is to carry a lump hammer and smack the bejasus out of it when it sticks but that gets wearing in a foot of snow :-)

Gave it a bit of a whack earlier but no success but then maybe a bigger hammer is needed!

I had a similar problem with mine , Check the earth before changing any more.

mine did something the same,
a new set of brushes fixed it.

I got a set from Gemm4x4, there were different varieties depending on the starter/engine combo.

easy to replace, the starter should be quite easy to remove (2 bolts?, possibly 3... can't remember), which will allow you to fit new brushes more easily.

the symptoms i had for worn brushes were:-
1) sometime just clicking but no turney
2) clicking and very slow turnover with a strange clackety sound.

simon does a 2.5 td 19j one fit cause i had a fairly new one on mine before i tdi'd it and think its still lying around
