range rover classic 2.5tdi automatic

when am in low going up hills when a start giving it power am getting a crunch and banging noise does it more in low than in hi can be driving off a roundabout and give it power does the same when power is reduced its fine

was speaking to someone and said it could be the shaft from the gearbox to transfer box slipping due to wear anyone had a similar problem as not looking forward to takeing gearbox out

would a be able to just take transfer box of to inspect the shaft from gearbox  ?

thanks jamie

Before getting to the gearbox/transfer box,
Have you checked fully that the UJ's are all ok on the prop shafts?

Sorry Jamie - Just commenting on the blurred photos.....not easy getting a clear shot in the dark under the car. Hope the box is not too bad when you get it out.

Should be marked on the casing, usually a sticker. I think the are 1.44 ratio on the V8's.
