GEARBOX WONT ENGAGE GEARS

Hi, just fitted a new gearbox to my discovery 1 v8, now it wont engage gears when the engine is running.
put the t/box in neutral and all seams fine.
any help would be great

had to re center clutch plate as g/box would not mate with it, once done box went straight on no probs.
 ???

sounds like the clutch is not disengaging fully from the input gear.
if the layshaft is running and the output shaft is not then the syncro cannot spin up the free gears and so you cant select anything.
once you go into neutral the syncro will spin the gears( plus output shaft) and the shifter will work (but not great, there might be slight crunch still)

i would look at the clutch system, might need bled, or the arm(in the bellhousing) might be knacked, etc etc.

if you put the car in 1st gear with the engine off, handbrake on, transfer box in low/high, jack up 1 front wheel and start the engine with the clutch pedal in, the wheel should not spin. the wheels should only spin if the pedal is released.

or sit on a gentle hill with the car in gear, engine off,  clutch pedal down, the car should go down hill, clutch pedal up the engine should hold the car stopped.

garage had this prob with mine they had put the clutch plate in back to front , disco2 tho

Not sure if their similar but i had this problem with my recent clutch fitting on my 110. Turned out to be the master cylinder as i had adjusted it for my old worn clutch. Now it engages gears fine.
1988 Defender 110 300tdi. Bit of an animal.
1998 Defender 90 300tdi. The new pup.

Turned out i had put the clutch plate in back to front ::).
Next problem been suplied the wrong clutch kit, new one is a lot smaller than old and the suplier is adament it is for a 3.9 v8.
If anyone knows what this kit is for its a LR009366.
Only no. on the old one is ftc4662
