To Hel and Back
« on: June 27, 2010, 11:07:15 PM »
A friend has pointed out a most interesting website called To Hel and Back!

This refers to two young guys who are driving a Land Rover in Africa. Late in March 2010, Tom Picton and Carl James left to drive from Buckinghamshire, England, to Die Hel near Cape Town in South Africa, then attempt to drive back home. I have posted a link on the front page of the Club Website meantime - the Links page is, as they say, 'under construction'.

If I can make the forum do the link it is here.  www.tohelandback.org.uk

Well worth a read. I've made it a 'sticky' for a few days.

Sandy.

They publish their summaries monthly in LRM. But their website is better and more detailed (though uploaded in batch then they have time), especially their tracking here: http://mapvivo.com/journey/8619. Their description of all mechanical problems they had during the preparation phase (which made them late to depart) would scare most people away from Land Rovers.

Its' a bigger challenge in a Landy. Easier in Cruiser or a Patrol as they are far better vehicles.
