Title: 1160 miles on ?180
Post by: jay2578 on July 28, 2010, 05:29:30 PM
was pretty impressed with the D2 TD5, got back from a round trip of roughly 1160 miles (dundee to hastings) and it cost me ?180!
Haven`t worked out mpg yet but it can`t be bad!

With my Carol Voderman dress on. ;)
If it was ?1.18 a litre (?5.36 a gallon nearly)
1160 miles divided by 33.5 gallons nearly is just under an average 35 MPG.
So as Cliff said,
Congragulations. :)

a little slower next time & pump the tyres up & you might get 36.

You did well............... I did Stirling to Southampton to London to Rugby to Stirling last week in my 3.6TDv8 RRS and driving on the cruise control all the time achieved 33.8mpg with the aircon set at auto the whole time and the centre cubby fridge cooling my soft drinks while in the Sarf. The average speed for the south bound trip was 68mph and the return was a bit more :o

I drove all the motorways on cruise control at 65-68mph, my town driving the week before worked out at 28.55mpg so i guessed I`d maybe get 34mpg on the long punt. Had every seat full and a bit of luggage on the way down, and one seat spare on the way back up.
Oh also had a slight drip at the fuel filter so once thats fixed I might be able to do it on ?160!

Ha. Reminds me of the sign on the back of an old AEC Explorer ( some humungeous great petrol engine in a 6x6 Artillery tractor from the 60s)

" Doing our best to improve road safety...by using up all the worlds petrol as quickly as possible."
