Title: V8 not wanting to start
Post by: Farx4 on June 13, 2017, 09:44:39 PM
Need some advice please. I'm building an 88" comp safari motor and have fitted a 3.5 V8 on an Edelbroke carb with a standard Bearmach pump in the rear tub next to an alloy tank. Ignition is all fine and the engine will run ok once it has fired up but it will only burst into life if a drop or two of petrol is put down the carb barrels. The pump is pushing the fuel through ok and I'm sure once the engine is running it will help to pull the fuel through as well but I'm thinking I might need a slightly higher output pump as the engine appears not to get enough fuel through to start it. Any thoughts please?

Might be your technique !!

I found on my Holley 4 barrell carbs that when cold the car would not start unless the choke was out, and the throttle pedal was pumped four or five times before turning the key .

Tried that Sandy but doesn't quite want to fire and then won't restart again on it's own when it has been running for a while and is warm. Will have another go using your suggestion :D

Is the timing set accurately?
