Greasing UJs
« on: August 17, 2010, 01:05:07 PM »
Hello people,

I'm planning to grease my UJs because it hasn't been done for a number of months now. I normally let the garage do it, but I thought what's the point, it's not that hard. Is Lithium EP2 suitable for UJs?

I would think so. Most general purpose greases are Lithium based . It is rather an old fashioned grease that so should suit a Landrovers Hardy Spicer.

Always a good ploy to do the uj's just after a run when the joints are warmer. Also park the vehicle on the flat, chock the wheels and release the h/brake. This releases tension on the rear uj's and allows the grease gets all around the joint.
Have fun!

**technically** you want to take the props off, so you can rotate the spiders around as you pump in the grease...... :)

Is that "technically" as in "that's what the manual that says I should replace my O-rings all the time advises" or as in "but most people just do it by lifting a wheel to be able to turn the UK a bit"?  :)
