Replacing the headlamp units 1996 Def 90
« on: August 11, 2010, 08:37:16 PM »
At the last MOT (Feb2010) there was a note on my MOT recommending replacement of my 90's headlamp units due to corrosion on the reflectors. For a couple of years I have toyed with replacing them with something a bit more powerful than the OEM lamps that Land Rover supplies, but I'm not too keen to have the "BMW angel eyes" style that I have seen in the mags I would like some HiD's. Any advice would be welcome and what modifications might need to be made to the car?
On my drive now - Zanzibar Bronze Evoque 5 door Dynamic Lux Plus with Intelligence & Black Packs with Tan interior
Gone - Fuji White RR Evoque Coupe Dynamic Lux Plus
Staying - 1996 Epsom Green TDi 300 CHT that is now a CSW

Converts standard headlights to real Xenon high intensity discharge lighting

8000K ice white virtual daylight colour rendering

Up to 3x brighter than standard halogen bulbs

10 x longer bulb life than standard halogen bulbs

Xenon Dipped Bulb, Halogen Main Beam

Suitable for RHD and LHD vehicles.

NOTE: This kit is both CE and E approved. However, Xenon Headlights conversion kits are only road legal if used with automatic levelling and headlight washing system.

so a bucket and sponge doesnt count as a headlight wash system?

I put an HiD conversion on my 110TR - quality CE Hella ones.  Initially I was impressed until I drove my 50th with Quadoptics with PIAA bulbs.  Much better than the xenon's.  Xenon's look very bling but they are limited by the reflector/lense pattern whereas the Quadoptics with an uprated (not higher wattage) bulb is much better in my opinion (the pattern seems better).  Of course the best answer is to fit a QT bonnet pod and be done with it!

You can now get twin xenon's (main and dipped) and the excellent thing is the bulb life - it'll probably outlast the Land Rover!!!

Just an idea, would VW mk2 Golf headlights fit a defender? sure they are about 7 inch.

You can get crystal or smoked crystal lights for them, without the cheesy angle eyes.
