Tyro change of date
«
on:

Unfortunately we are having to change the date of the next Tyro to the 2nd November. We are going to be using a new site near Cumbernauld called Glenhove (ord survey map ref 775/721)
We apologise for any inconviense caused by the change of date, but hope this new site will be a success.
Will post set up details nearer the date, hope to see you all there.

Dougie, is that in the woods where mudmaster went orienteering or somewhere else? I was hoping to come along in D4 but I'm afraid my paintwork isn't going anywhere near them woods, far too many stray branches.

Laying out sections is not the easiest thing to do as I have found out the hard way! There are rules on the subject, which state it should not be a cane dogging activity, however for tyro's you can not make it to extreme, so there is a happy balance to be made. The RTV at Kidlaw last month looked easy when it was set it out, however from what I was told, points were scored from areas that looked easy! Doug sets out some good sections although on some occasions the gates do get a bit on the narrow side. I think we need to support Doug and if they are a bit narrow and we score points, well we need smile and have a smaller car for next year!
. I hope to go next week if all is well. See you there.

Peter, I have also set up for Tyros and know its not always easy to get the right balence, generally you can tell straight away if Dougie didn't set the course (is that good or bad
). However, if support is wanted from some of the newer LR cars by attending, then the gates do need to be set a bit wider than is required for a Defender, especially when windy.

Dave,
Totally agree.
We are out for fun on a Saturday or Sunday.
I was just trying to let others know the compromises that the course builders have to make when laying out the sections. I was the one at Bathgate this year with the dubious job of making sure you did not bend or damage your pristine Disco on its first tyro. I am hoping to have my lightweight back on the road for next year, which is much smaller than a Disco of any age.
Regards
Peter

If the gates are set say 12 foot apart I may stand a chance of a score of less than 30 odd and everyone else could have the joy of going clear
Clearly I only possess the skill to drive recklessly across open ground not in carefully with any skill, may come over and watch and keep out of bother... save the canes LOL

Hi all,
To take part in this, do you need to have done the whole series or can you just rock up and try this out? I haven't done a tyro before but keen to give it a go. Also, what does it cost to take part please?
Thanks
