Title: Oil Change - engine, diffs & transmission
Post by: ruaritreble on September 27, 2010, 04:29:50 PM
So 6 months is up and it's time for an oil change. Thats easy.
As the 110 is reasonably new to me, I was also going to put fresh oil in the diffs. & transmission EP90 I read. Thus I have piece of mind of what I'm running.

So off I trot to the autoshop who tell me you can no longer get EP90, only 80w90 or 75w90.
But hang on, my chandelry sells EP90 gl4  (or 5)  one is suitable for diffs the other suitable for diffs & tranission. But only in 1l bottles.

What oil should I put in the diffs and what goes into gearbox :-\

Any other tips welcome.

Ruari,

I got mine from Halfords and the other stuff you can get thro paddocks or on flea bay.

Google is your best pal me thinks

As to Mr Sykes gear box it was only water at the top.

Just be careful not to use the GL5 stuff - its pretty acidic, made for very high pressure applications - and eats bronze bushes for breakfast.

Try your Unipart dealer for stuff. They manufactured to all LR original specs for filters etc. and the oils are good.

ok......ive not seen yet of you are sure of what goes where,

ep90 or 75w90 in the diffs & transferbox
MTF94 in the gearbox if its an r380 (across n back for reverse)
ATF in the gearbox if its an lt77 (across n forward for reverse)

80w90 is fine for the diffs
MTF94 is fine for the LT77 - just becuase ATF was original spec it doesn't mean you should stick to it when something better comes along.
80w90 for the transfer box

There is mountains of info on t'internet.
