Planning for GRR 3rd March
« on: January 24, 2013, 11:07:34 PM »
A heads up for the 3rd March GRR. I'm working on something similar to the Achray Forest run last Feb, for those who were on it. Part of the same ground and some more and new to us areas. If the landowners approve the map I've submitted we will also have some longer "special" detours that we could not have used last year due to fallen trees.

Put 3rd March, GRR near Aberfoyle,  in your diary NOW.

As soon as the landowners confirm I'll put up more detail.

Cheers

G.

Excusing my ignorance?

Andrew, the only daft question is the one you don't ask.

A GRR - Green Road Run - is our version of what is known as "Green Laning" south of the border -  A non-competitive and usually scenic drive on, mostly, Forest and Estate tracks. The biggest difference is that we have to ask for permission as its mostly all private land, south of the border they have a much larger network of legal vehicle navigable rights of way. Think of it as "Rambling by Landrover" .

The way we try to organise it is to get permission for a decent length of a drive, put some arrows out if the route is not clear then set folk off with a map in smallish groups so we generate a bit of teamwork, get to know each other etc etc.  We also try to grade the route red, yellow, green so that there is a way round that anyone can do in their Evoke ....but with some red "detours" with more lumps and bumps, maybe tight vegetation, so possibly more challenging driving but offset against having to get the "T-Cut" and polish out afterwards  :D.

Look at some of the pics for older runs and you'll get the idea. All you need is a Landrover, packed lunch and a tow-rope, just in case.

See you on March 3rd ?

Easy Scenic stuff.....

More "Reddish..."

Ah, a demonstration of teamwork in action...... a rock bit the tyre and some stalwart fellows leapt into action to replace it. Middle of Nowhere, Galloway.  I just took a few photos and let them get on with it... Dave T seemed to be enjoying himself as I recall...

Very successful meeting with the landowners agents today. Some bits they were ruling out as "impassable" are back in.....  together with miles and miles of really good scenic driving. Overall, a fair bit of new stuff including access to some new "challenging" areas.

Looking for a crew to help organise on the day - volunteers please !

See you on March 3rd.

Gene.

This grr sounds great to me so long as I'm not doing anything to scare the cxxp out the good lady.
I'm only a member of the on line forum thingy do I need to be a full club member before we go ?
Are there any fees to be paid on the day ?
Looking forward to our first jaunt in the landy and off road too.....Jim and Angela
